As I stood in Lucy’s hospital room, I stopped dead in my tracks as this worship song came on.

“Yes,” I thought. “Yes!”

This all happened last October, when Lucy was only days old and recovering from heart surgery.

Jeremy Camp’s lyrics permeated my daughter’s hospital room, reminding me that God’s power is always available.

What I love about this worship song is the following lyrics, which have a significant grounding effect, shocking you back to a reality that is often forgotten about.

“The Same Power” by Jeremy Camp

“The same power that rose Jesus from the grave

The same power that commands the dead to wake

Lives in us, lives in us

The same power that moves mountains when He speaks

The same power that can calm a raging sea

Lives in us, lives in us

He lives in us, lives in us”

I love these lyrics!

So often we forget who it is that we are aligned with.

Who it is that equips us.

Who it is that lends His power, strength and love to us at all time.

Jesus’ power is pulsing through you right now as you read this.

It’s an unbelievable reality, but unfortunately, most of us will miss living through His power for the majority of our lives. We don’t miss this power because we want to, but because we do not know how to access it, or sometimes we are not even aware that it is a possibility.

But it is true. When we are followers of Jesus, we are provided the same power Jesus had, which is the Holy Spirit. And it is through the Holy Spirit that we are able to become like Jesus and able to access His power and strength.

Jesus reiterated over and over to His disciples (and to us too) that we will do great things if we have faith, as these Scriptures depict:

Matthew 17:20 (NLT)

“You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”

Matthew 21:21 (The Voice)

“Jesus: I tell you this: if you have faith and do not doubt, then you will be able to wither a fig tree with one glance. You will be able to tell mountains to throw themselves into the ocean, and they will obey.”

John 7:38 (NIV)

“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

Jesus even goes on and says we will do greater things the He did!

John 14:12 (NIV)

“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”

What do we do with the proclamation that the power of God is surging through us, just like we see in Jesus’ life? Do we do anything with it? Do we even believe it?

I want to leave this devotion open-ended and not put a bow on it for an easy application. Instead, I really want you to explore the utilization of God’s power in your life.

Below are some reflection questions, an exercise, Scripture, and a prayer. All week we will be discussing this topic of “Strength In Christ” at length and we hope you join us for the rest of the conversation. It could be life-changing.

Prayer

Jesus,

Thank you for always being with us, being with me. Lord, I need to understand You better. I need to understand how much you are offering to me in my life, right now. I toil and strive and grasp at trying to make things happen when I really can’t. If I could only stop and trust that You are with me and Your strength is always available to me if I would only seek it out. I’m sorry for trying to walk alone, for that life is so colorless and filled with anxiety and fatigue. May this truth, the truth that You live in me, drastically and radically change my life. Amen.

Spiritual Exercise:

Stop and reread the lyrics from Jeremy Camp’s song, “Same Power” and try to apply it to a situation you are facing right now. Spend time reflecting and praying and remember to leave space for God to speak to you.

“The same power that rose Jesus from the grave

The same power that commands the dead to wake

Lives in us, lives in us

The same power that moves mountains when He speaks

The same power that can calm a raging sea

Lives in us, lives in us

He lives in us, lives in us”

Reflection Questions

How would your life look if you knew that God’s strength and power were always flowing through you?

Would that change anything for you or your circumstances?

How will you personally respond to Jesus’ words stating you have His power in you and can do anything if you believe?
