Do you have a word for the year? You know, a word or phrase you are going to work on to develop in your life? So many people pick a word for the year that enables them to focus on a virtue they would like to develop. As followers of Christ, we should always implore the Lord to help change our hearts and to become more like Jesus.
The following Bible verses have been handpicked by me from the various words of the year from the members of my Facebook Group “Becoming Like Jesus.” If you haven’t joined this free group for Christian women, you should! I would love to have you join!
I think it is interesting to note that some of the most popular words from my group were:
- Focus
- Overcome
- Believe
- Trust
- Connect(ion)
- Intentional
- Peace
- Transform
- Patience
- Gratitude
- Hope
- Strength
- Change
It’s fascinating to see the words people are feeling drawn to, especially during the pandemic we find ourselves in. Life has changed – but Christ hasn’t. God remains the same, and the more we attend to our relationship with Him and make Him the source of everything, the stronger and more resilient we become.
Life will always throw curveballs. ALWAYS. That is why it is vital for us to keep our eyes on God and not our circumstances. This is how we have unshakable faith and a firm foundation (Mt. 7:24-27).
Below you will find a list of different virtues alongside Scripture or a link to many different Bible verses on the topic, since I have a lot of resources on the site that can help you!
Make 2021 your best year yet, by seeking the Lord in all things, especially your thoughts and emotions. May God reign in your life this year as you work on allowing Him to shape you in His perfect image!
Pick a verse below and use it as your daily prayer and see what God just might do through your word for the year!

Romans 12:1-2 MSG
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
