When I think back on my walk with Jesus, there are many seasons of life where I found myself drawn over and over again to the same Bible verse. For one reason or another, depending on my circumstances in life, it just seemed like God kept bringing my eyes back to the same passage of Scripture during certain years, and used those passages to mold and shape me.

Have you ever found yourself intensely drawn to a particular Bible passage that speaks directly into a specific time of your life?

If not, perhaps 2020 is the time for you to pick a verse for your year that speaks directly into your life right now!

Picking a Bible verse for your year is a great way to keep yourself motivated, focused, and to train your eyes on God – who is always with you.

Below, I have 25 great Bible verses that might be great candidates for your year verse.

So why a Bible verse for the year?

Well…first of all…why not!?

Picking a verse, or even a few, to be the theme for the year is a great idea for staying rooted in God and His direction in your life.

True, lasting, life-giving change comes from our relationship with God. Sure, you can change apart from God, but it is so much better to rely on His strength, guidance, and love while going through change.

And speaking of change, perhaps you do not have a huge goal this year, such as weight loss, getting your finances in order, or spending more time with your family. Maybe you feel content where you are, and that’s fantastic, truly! But what you can do, no matter where you’re at, is to continue to build your relationship with Jesus.

We can never get too close to God.

Our call is to be continually transformed into the image of Christ and the more we invest in our relationship with God, the more we benefit from it.

So whatever you are planning on for the new year, know that God is with you and ready to help you through this year! Keep your eyes on Him and you will never fall.

Below are some amazing verses that I hand-picked that are all excellent Bible verses to choose from.

Deuteronomy 31:8 | God’s Guidance, Security, Fear, Strength In The Lord

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (NIV)

that sends out its roots by the stream.

    its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.” (NIV)

This is actually the foundational verse for our daily discipleship and month Bible study membership. Having a firm foundation in Jesus doesn’t happen overnight. It takes a repeated effort to grow closer to Him every single day.

Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. (MSG)

Matthew 11:28-30 | Strength in Christ, Weariness, Rest
