When I was a seminary student, I took a class on the Parables Of Jesus by the distinguished professor Dr. Craig Blomberg. He’s an expert in the parables of Jesus and the New Testament, and is actually one of the translators of the NIV Bible!
I was so excited to take this class years ago because I have always been drawn to the parables of Jesus. I find the parables to be fascinating, but also mysterious in their meaning sometimes.
And actually, that is a major point of Jesus’ parables – He created them to draw those seeking Him while repelling others that wouldn’t accept His wisdom.
Jesus’ message isn’t easy to handle, and God is immensely interested in having our entire self devoted to Him… not just portions of us.
Why? Because of His love.
God knows that we cannot figure out life ourselves and He, as the Master and Creator of us and this entire universe, provides us a different way of life.
But not everyone can accept what God offers, and this is something Jesus was always talking about.
We prayed very hard before creating this particular challenge for May 2019. We set out to do something different but felt that we were being drawn to a unique road.
I’m not sure exactly why God put this on my heart to create this particular Challenge. All I do know is that Jesus’ ministry is life-changing. His message can always restore and renew us even if we are lifelong disciples.
That’s the thing about God and His love, it never stops healing us. God is always looking to bring us life and life to the fullest. And boy, don’t we continually need that?
Seriously, I don’t know about you, but I always need my life to be refined and renewed by and through God’s love and grace.
The parables of Jesus can and should refine and renew you too. Anytime we intentionally meet with God through prayer and Scripture study, well… He moves mountains.
Sometimes we don’t notice it, or have become dull to the phenomena, of God’s work in our life – but it is very true. By looking at the parables of Jesus over the next 31 days, life as you know it could radically change.
Our God is that powerful and that magnificent and all we have to do is show up and be willing to grab ahold and not let go or lose our focus.
So join me this adventure and see what Jesus has to say to you through His parables. I bet it’s exactly what you need to hear.

Components Of The Parables Of Jesus Challenge
Every day is a challenge in of itself. Each day has this same break down:
Scripture from a parable of Jesus.
A place to write out the Scripture.
A reference to the parable of Jesus for you to look up and read entirely. Some of the parables of Jesus were longer than we could quote. We decided it would be best if you read the extended Scripture in your own Bible or online.
After you are done reading the full text for the day, we will summarize the Parable of Jesus for you and then ask you a reflection question.
And finally, we provide you a unique prayer prompt every day to take all of your studying and reflection and place it in the Lord’s arms. We also provide you a spot for you to write out your prayer each day if you would like.
How Much Time Does This Take?
Well it all depends on how much you want to put into it.
Simply reading each sheet/day only take a few minutes. But if you take into account writing out Scripture, reading reflection questions, reading additional Scripture for the day, and having time for prayer, expect to take, on average about 10 minutes per day to complete this Challenge.
Tens of thousands of people have taken our Challenges and we have seen people truly maximize their Challenge and create masterpieces both artistically and intellectually.
Need More Convincing?
Here’s what people are saying who have taken a Challenge:
In case you’re new to Spiritually Hungry, we have thousands of people taking our Challenges each month! Here’s what some of them are saying:
“Love the Challenge! Because of my crazy busy schedule, I have trouble attending a traditional Bible study. This gives me the freedom to do it on my time with many more people.” – Lisa from Texas
“It’s been a long time since I’ve felt God’s presence while doing a devotion. I’ve shed more tears feeling His presence during these short days than I have all year.” – D.K.
“I used to have the excuse I didn’t have the time but I have realized when I do this (Challenge) first the rest of my day flows so much better. And I always feel overwhelmed with where do I start – this (Challenge) takes that fear away.” – K.G.
“Sometimes ‘devotion time’ isn’t a peaceful, quiet, birds chirping, brooks bubbling, Disney Princess scene. Sometimes it’s stealing a brief moment on the floor surrounded by plastic food while a little one is distracted by stickers. I am so thankful for a God that meets me where I am, with the time I have.” – Grace from North Carolina
We hear back from so many people who share with us how our Challenges have helped them grow closer to God.
Whether you are a brand new Christian or a seasoned disciple, we’ve created our Challenges to meet you where you are.
