Welcome to Day 8 of the Be The Light Challenge! We hope that this series of Challenges is helping you to focus in on our powerful God and what He is doing in our world right now this Christmas season. If you are new to the Be The Light Challenge, or want to catch up on past Challenges, be sure to check out this page for more information and to check out previous days in the Be The Light Challenge

In yesterday’s Challenge, you were asked to pray over your gifts, asking for God’s blessing over the recipients, and praying that the gift would be readily seen as an act of love, shining Christ’s light. I hope that the challenge to pray over your gifts helped widen your perspective on gift-giving, and enabled you to better see how gift-giving can represent so much more during the Christmas season (or anytime)!

Today’s Challenge is also centered on gift-giving, and builds off of the Day 7 exercise.

Your Day 8 Challenge is to choose one gift you are giving this year and add a message to it that specifically explains how you prayed for the gift.

If you have a present wrapped and ready to go – tape a card or note to the package, letting the recipient know the gift has been prayed over. If have already mailed or ordered a gift, write an email or text message explaining how you prayed over the gift and plan to send It to them on Christmas Day (or whenever they open it).

Letting the gift recipient know that it’s been prayed over will make it all the more meaningful and special to them. Plus, this is a great opportunity to share your faith and be intentional about shining Christ’s light in this world!

You can be elaborate or simple in your note – do what you feel like God is leading you to do with your message. The most important thing is to let the other person know that their gift has been prayed over!

If you’d like to have a more extensive message, here are a few ideas to include in your note:

  • A Bible verse that you’d like to share.
  • A specific memory about yourself and that person that is important to you.
  • How you hope the gift is helpful or meaningful to them.
  • A short-written prayer that you write specifically for that person.
  • A description of specific ways you’ve been praying for that person.

Of course, you could include anything in your note! The most important thing is to just let them know that you’ve prayed over their gift.

So there it is – that’s Day 8’s Challenge. Of course, you may not be able to deliver your message until the person opens their gift, but you can always compose the message now and save it for the day.
