Back To Back Get Up Tournament is one of those youth games that is more fun – and hilarious- than it might look like at first glance. This seemingly simple exercise can be turned into a highly competitive tournament that still encourages positivity and teamwork. It’s also a great game to play anytime you want to teach about supporting one another as friends. Of course, the other great thing about this game is that it requires absolutely no preparation and you can play it anywhere!

Number of Participants: 6 minimum (can be played with fewer, as long as there is an even number)
Materials Needed: None

Game Instructions (Read Aloud To Group)

We’re going to play a game called “Back to Back Tournament.” To begin, each person will pair off with a partner, and you will be a team throughout the tournament. Next, you will find another team to compete against in the first round of the tournament. Once you have your first opponents, each team will stand near the other so they can watch each other throughout the round. To begin the game, turn around so your back is facing away from your teammate, then press your backs together. The goal of the game is to slide down together to a sitting position, and then back to standing without the use of hands. However, you’ll be competing against your opponent to be the first to complete the exercise. In each round, you’ll face one opponent team, and the winner advances to face another team who also won their round. The tournament continues until there is a final showdown between the best two teams.

Notes:

You can modify this game to be an icebreaker by removing the tournament aspect.

Teams will work best if each player is similarly sized.
