Keeping an active love for God alive and thriving is the pursuit of every good and faithful follower of Jesus. Not only does our active love for God help us stay grounded it actually is the most important commandment from our Lord.
We should always be working on staying in love with God.
Do you want to know what it takes to be a great disciple and follower of God?
It’s simple: make God King of your life.
Allow Him to reign in your heart. Stoke the fire of passion for Him, and never let it diminish. Seek after Him with everything you have.
The problem is that we often want to be king. We want to be the one calling the shots while living comfortably.
We must continually dethrone ourselves and place God at the center of our heart, mind, and our soul. Then we’ll find ourselves free and exactly where we need to be.
Repeatedly placing Jesus at the center of our very beings, is how we have unshakable faith and thrive in this world.
Our love for God is fuel for our lives and we must attend to staying in love with God or we risk losing so much.
When our love dries and dulls for God, we become unsettled, displaced, and incredibly lost. And unfortunately, we often do not even notice when our love for God has diminished or taken a backseat.
In order to be a good and healthy follower of Christ, we must keep our love for Him first and foremost.
Every relationship in our lives suffers when love weakens or dissipates, and it’s no different with God.
Your love for God might be strong right now, but keep in mind that our love for Him always has room to ignite and grow even more.
I really want to challenge you to think about what your love for God looks like, what it means, and how it affects your interactions with other people.
To love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and soul is the first and greatest commandment and the second is similar – to love your neighbor as yourself. There is a lot of meat to chew on in these two commandments and it is the jumping off point to looking at Scripture about loving God more.
If you happen to find yourself needing to receive God’s love then I also have a Scripture post that has Bible verses about God’s love. I also have an article about how to remain in God’s love. And there is also a great collection of worship songs about God’s love I have put together.
May God lead you to new levels and depths in His perfect and holy love through these Bible verses about loving God.
Scripture About Loving God
Matthew 22:37-38 NIV Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.

1 John 4:18-19 NIV
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.
2 John 1:6 NIV
And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
Bonus Verse:
Romans 13:9-10 NIV
The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
May you choose to love God every day and walk humbly with Him!
