If you are reading these prayers for miscarriage, it is probably because you or someone you love has suffered a miscarriage. I am so sorry for your loss and your immense pain. We’ve created these prayers for miscarriage to hopefully help you find some peace and recognition of God’s love, while inspiring you to turn to Him in prayer during this painful time.
On Christmas Day 2011, I endured my first pregnancy loss. Seven months later, I lost my second child due to a miscarriage. For several years afterwards, my husband and I closed the door of pregnancy and children in our lives.
The pain of miscarriage is unfathomable. It is a truly unique experience, because losing a child that you never get to meet brings with it a whole host of grief that many humans never experience or understand.
I wrote these prayers from the bottom of my heart, from a pain that surprisingly still exists to this day. In writing these prayers for miscarriage, I stepped back into those moments when I lost my two precious babies. The following prayers came from that place.
Death is hard and it was never part of God’s plan (Genesis 1-3). But death isn’t permanent for the followers of Jesus. Sometimes in grief, it can be really difficult to hold on to the reality of the future, but you and your baby will be united there in the perfection of heaven.
This is the light in darkness, and while it may be hard, even unbearable, this is not the end.
May you find God’s comfort, love, and grace in these prayers. From one momma’s heart to another’s, I truly hope these see you through this very difficult time.
And one final note, the last few prayers on this list were written by my husband. We usually write our prayer posts together and do not specifically distinguish which one of us wrote which prayer. However, this time, I really wanted his prayers to be noted. Being a father to a baby lost in a miscarriage is an unreal hardship. We women at least get to carry the baby and have a connection in that way. However, our partners have even less tangible connection to our baby.
It’s important to note a miscarriage is a difficult loss for everyone, including both parents, and each will grieve in different ways. I hope these prayers for a miscarriage bring you through this terrible hardship.
Prayers For A Miscarriage
Lord, My heart is broken, I am devastated by this loss. The pain is so real and I don’t know how to see beyond it. I need you to rescue me from this abyss of loss. Amen.
God, Please take care of my precious baby. Help me to have patience and endurance until I get to Heaven and meet my sweet child in perfection. I thank you that this is not the end, but only a waiting period until we meet in Heaven. Amen.
Lord, please make something new come from this horrific loss. Amen.
Lord, I’m scared to get pregnant again. I’m terrified I will lose another child. How will I endure another loss. Please God I need you to lead me through all of this. I need healing. I need hope. I need you more than anything. Amen.
God, Everywhere I go I see pregnant people or babies. Ever since I lost my precious child, I see people with the thing I most want. I don’t know how to move on and I don’t necessarily want to move on, because I miss my sweet little baby so much. Give me the strength to carry forth. Give me endurance as I grieve this loss. Amen.
More Prayers For A Miscarriage
Lord, I can’t even believe the amount of grief I feel for someone I have never met. The feeling is so strange to lose a child that hasn’t been born. While the feeling is strange the pain is no less for whether I met them or not I am their mother and they are forever my child. Please God bring healing and goodness from this. Amen.
God, Nobody seems to understand my pain from this loss. People say things like you’ll see your baby again in Heaven, but Lord I don’t want to wait until Heaven to be with my baby. This is so hard and feels unbearable. Lord I just need you to comfort me and help me, please. Come to my rescue. Amen.
Lord, Please bring me some encouragement to strengthen me on this journey of losing my baby. I need you to help me through this darkness to find your light. I feel trapped in a pit of grief and despair and Lord I need you. You are the only one to bring me through. Please help. Amen.
God, Help me to look forward to the future, not with fear but with you holding me and guiding me. With you all things are possible, help me to understand the depths of who you are and what you do. My life is nothing without you help me to cling on to you in ways I never have before, for you are my only hope. Amen.
Prayers for a miscarriage written by a Father
These prayers were written by my husband, Aaron, who suffered at the loss of his two unborn children. May these last six prayers bring comfort to you and others out there struggling with a miscarriage.
God, It’s hard to process this loss. I feel confused about what this miscarriage means for the future. I never expected to face this outcome and it’s hard to get my head around it. Help me stay grounded in you, Lord. Amen.
Jesus, I’m hurting too, and I’ve lost so much in this miscarriage. There is a lifetime of memories that I’ll never have with my child. I feel like people don’t understand this is my pain too, and it feels lonely. Help me through this time. Amen.
Lord, I’m afraid for the future now. I’m dreading that a miscarriage loss will happen again, and I don’t want to live in fear. Amen.
God, It’s hard to find the right words to comfort my wife when I’m hurting so deeply myself. God help me find the strength to carry our family forward during this time. Amen.
Jesus, I’m afraid of saying the wrong things, or not being supportive in the way she needs. I don’t feel equipped to handle a miscarriage and I’m at a loss. I need your guidance to be powerful and obvious in this time, God. Amen.
